Relaxed, outdoor, romantic, and fun wedding in Devon.

My beautiful couple got married at The Great Barn, a wedding venue in Devon. It’s set amongst rolling green hills, long grass, and blooms of all colours. John and Emma, the owners, always have their garden blooming like something from a storybook. There’s always a relaxed and elegant feel when I do wedding photography here. I especially love it at the end of the day when their gentle dogs can roam free and say hello to guests.

This was such a calm wedding, I had a great amount of time to really achieve the images I wanted to get. With no bridesmaids or best man, the bride had a gentle atmosphere with no rushing about. I could wander over to the Barn to take photos of the incredible flowers on the tables, over to the groom as he got ready, and into the floral garden where the ceremony was being set up. It was great to be able to try out new photographic ideas, and these guys were unbelievably brilliant at being photographed.

Let me tell you, if you’re someone who might think you’ll feel a little uncomfortable being photographed, this bride can make you feel better. She did too but, like her, you just totally trust in me and totally focus on enjoying how lucky you are, how amazing this day is, you’ll soon forget you ever felt uncomfortable. It’s a day to feel grateful, feel loved, feel alive. Enjoy it and forget me : )

Outdoor wedding ceremonies in summer totally rock. That fresh garden smell, the space, the sky, and as the light is good you can see the bold colours in the clothes that people are wearing.

We had such a great couple shoot. Climbing up a hill and really being able to see those rolling hills of Devon. At the Great Barn you get a great view up there of your venue and your guests enjoying themselves. When they came down they did their speeches outside, such a good idea! Great light for the photos, and also it’s a more relaxed environment for those nerves!

Dinner time came and I felt humbled to be asked to sit in the dining room with them. I’m happy having a rest in the other room of course and grateful to eat when it comes, but when a couple extent a seat, well, it’s just one of those things in life that help you feel good about the planet we live on. I don’t expect it, but feel so touched when it happens.

The couple ended their night by walking through a sparkler tunnel to their car which took them away.
